pre = before

1) preview-to view or show in advance; anything that gives an advance idea or impression of something to come.

2) prepay- beforehand or before due

3) preappove- to agree of a subject; to give permission

4) predict- to declare or tell in advance of something happening; before you read a story, you think about what the story will be about

5) prejudge- to judge before hand; to have an opinion about something or something before you know the facts


6) precaution- to be careful

  • 7) prefix- the beginning part of a word that helps the meaning of that word (pre, post, un, dis, mis, etc)

8) pretest - to take a test before the real test

  • 9) prevent- to keep something from happening

  • 10) precede- to go before , as in place, order, rank, importance , or time



post = after

1) postpone- to be put off to a different time; to put off to a later time

  • 2) postmark= postal marking made on a letter, package, or postcard; an official mark stamped on letters and other mail

  • 3) postmortem = after death; occuring after someone dies

  • 4) postindustrial= characteristic of or relating to a period after the manufacturing

  • 5) postscript= a note written at the bottom of a letter, after the writer has signed it (PS)

  • 6) posthumous= usually an award arising, occurring, or continuing after one's death

  • 7) postproduction- the part of movie making that happens after filming (sound effect, sound track music, etc)

  • 8) postdate- on a check to be cash after the date has been written (usually cashed in a few days, weeks, month, or even years)

9) postgraduate- studies at an advanced level after graduating from college

  • 10) postmeridian- the time of day after 12 noon (P.M.)
